Tactical Operations Unit

The Tactical Operations Unit is a specialist arm of the New South Wales Police Force tasked with high-risk operations, counter-terrorism response, and armed offender incidents. The unit came to national attention following its role in confronting the perpetrator during the Lindt Café siege in Sydney, an event that marked a defining moment in Australia’s modern security history.

This work forms part of an ongoing Australian identity series that places institutions, figures, and symbols into a contemporary visual language without instruction or resolution. The series does not celebrate or condemn; it presents recognisable elements of national life and leaves interpretation to the viewer.
